“The Hug” and a voice over by actor and comedian Tim Allen are featured in a new TV commercial released by the super-PAC supporting the presidential candidacy of Republican Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
The 30-second spot, entitled “Quiet,” represents a six-figure buy in Michigan, Vermont and Massachusetts, said a New Day for America spokeswoman. All are states where Kasich has high hopes.
Allen, a Michigan native, opens the commercial by saying, “Being president is more than the economy or health care.”
It then features C-Span footage of University of Georgia college student Brett Smith opening up about his personal struggles at a Kasich town hall in South Carolina, leading to a viral hug with Kasich.
Allen concludes his narriation: “There is a place for quiet strength. The Oval Office.”
